Your Kids can do programming isnt that great

While searching on the net  i went to Kodzu Game lab website where i start learning that making games isnt that hard .A great effort from Microsoft as they launched Kodu Game Lab into market with free download.,

Kodu gives children the ability to learn programming and basic Object Oriented Software Development principles, without even knowing they are learning how to develop games.  Kids are able to create games by visually designing worlds, interactive objects, and characters.  The best part is your children will be able to play their games on their XBOX 360 after they are done creating the game!

Check Out Kodu and the Microsoft FUSE Labs team.

Animoto.com — generate videos from photos and music

June 3 2010 Categorized Under: Web sites 3 Commented

I checked it out – quite cool service that makes videos from your photos and chosen music. Yes, automagically indeed.

What it does

Site is online service that creates video mashups from your input. It takes in (after required registration):

* pictures (uploaded, selected from library or fetched from photo hosting site);
* video clips (uploaded and cropped to 5s);
* music (selected from library or uploaded).

And generates video clip in one of styles (controls background and transitions) from all of that.

Strong features

It is kinda cool and you get results with minimum effort. They may not be perfect, but they are awesome for that few clicks.

Clip can be viewed online, shared, embedded and exported to YouTube.

Downsides

Editor is falling apart at times. Buttons stuck and I had a lot of trouble changing sequence of pictures – they jumped around and disappeared.

It warns that if you put in too many pictures some may be dropped. I expected those to be last in sequence, but actually it dropped one in the middle when I tested.

Free version limitations

Processing and hosting online video is crazy resource intensive and expensive. For free you get unlimited amount of branded, non-downloadable, low-res videos, limited to 30s duration.

Paid account buys you a lot of extras and varies from small per-video fee to professional annual accounts.

Overall

There probably isn’t much what you can fit in free 30 seconds. Still some people can pull off amazing things with a picture… Give them 30s and that is a lot of possible awesomeness.

Lack of control over process is main feature and main limitation. Try and decide for yourself about that.

Real Time searching with location Sency

May 23 2010 Categorized Under: Web sites 9 Commented

Over the past 3 months, the darling of the media has been Foursquare, Gowalla and other location based applications which allow you to check-in to a location to tell your friends where you are. Twitter also introduced Tweet your location feature that comes with Google Maps integration allowing you to tweet your current location. These technologies can be useful for a variety of reasons and businesses have started to analyze how they can utilize these technologies to communicate and track their customers. However, there is another angle to real time location that hasn’t got the attention that it deserves.

Sency Search engine

Sency Searching

Real time search was a major topic last year as a way for users to search what’s going on. These searches can provide a look into the public consciousness for users to see what people are saying about any given topic. When these search tools our combined with real time location, they can have added potential and significance.

Real time search engine Sency launched in September 2009 with a mission to bring the real time web to internet users in a simple way. The site allows you to search the real time web to discover what people are saying as well as which links are being shared. Recently, Sency moved its technology to several major cities to allow the user to see what people are talking about in a given city. The initiative allows you to see what’s being said right now in London, Chicago, Seattle, Atlanta as well as 10 other major US cities. The goal is to perfect the user experience on these cities and then move it to other major cities across the world. In addition to showing you what’s being said in these major cities – Sency is able to show you were people are at right now in a given city which can clue you into hot places or events going on right now.

Today, is a new day on the web. Yesterday’s web was about archiving and ranking the best websites which offered useful information. But with the advent of social networking, the web is alive, and real time search engines and location based services will be merged to offer an entire new type of user experience.
